Has your business website seen a decline over recent times in Google UK organic results? Many businesses come to us due to having such issues. This blog post outlines some basic checks you might want to do to try and improve your organic rankings.

Link Building

Even in 2024 having a good and natural looking back-link profile is still important. We recommend checking the following:

  • Anchor-text distribution – is it natural and dominated by brand (especially for websites years old).
  • Type of links – are the dofollow links coming into the website relevant and natural looking?
  • Has there been an unnatural spike in referring domains going to the website.

If you decide on such an audit that some links are unnatural you may want to try and remove them/ask the webmaster to rel=”nofollow” or in a worst case scenario (approach with caution) disavow them via Search Console.

If you do not see many/if any problematic linking domains to your website but see a lack of links going to the website – then it is worth considering creating a natural link building strategy to improve your back-link profile.

Content Analysis

You have probably heard the term numerous times that ‘content is king’. Content plays a very important part for SEO. Here at Aspiring Digital Solutions we are great believers in natural, in-depth and human written content. When auditing your website’s content we recommend these as some of the checks to perform:

  • Is the content thin? If so try adding more to the page.
  • Does it look spammy or literally setup for SEO and not the user? If so a re-write is worth considering to make it look more human like. When writing content you should write it for the user – answering questions you think they may be looking for answers to.
  • Is it diverse? Just having text or an embedded video may not be enough. Try adding different kinds of content to the page where possible – video/image/text.
  • Check if the META data relevant and unique for the page.

Technical Analysis

Technical SEO appears to be more important than ever, below are some recommended checks to perform:

  • Page speed – check to see if page speed is at an acceptable level, Ideally you want to be passing the core web vitals. A good tool to use is PageSpeed Insights.
  • Make sure your website structure is efficient and easy for the user. Easy navigation and easy ways to convert for the user should always be a priority.
  • Sitemap – well worth having one, especially if you are a big e-commerce website with thousands of pages. Make sure that new pages you add to your website are in here.
  • Google Search Console – if you have not already then it is worth having your website on this tool by Google. It can flag up some technical SEO related issues for your website.

These are just some basic checks that may help you identify ranking issues for your website. If your struggling to conduct various SEO audits or need some help with recovering rankings in Google UK organic results – talk to us today to book in a free consultation.
